This will mark the first official weekend of summer and what better way to enjoy it than by and or in the water! We’ve got a few good places to get wet, practice beach bumming or just hang out in the shade this weekend. Bonus? They’re all free!

My husband will be competing this year in the Ottawa Dragon Boat Race and we’ll be there to cheer him on! The festival all takes place at Mooney’s Bay and includes both kid and adult friendly entertainment including hourly performances at the Family Fun Stage all day Saturday and Sunday as well as concerts for the big people in the evenings. The whole event is free and the competitors are all out there raising money for various charities. I’m looking forward to Little Ray’s Reptiles and the Company of Fools in particular – well that and the Dragon Boat Race of course!

  • Dow’s Lake
Bunny and I had a really great playdate last weekend at Dow’s Lake – we met up with some friends and took a stroll
along the bike path. We had brought some bread and crackers and began to feed a few (3) ducks that were swimming nearby. Within about 2 minutes the neighbouring ducks all caught wind of the buffet and made their way over – pretty soon we were more than just a little outnumbered and the girls were having a blast squeeling and laughing at the ballsy ducks who were all within arms reach going for the bits of food. These three duckings were my favourite – we just might have to go back and visit them again this weekend with a few more crackers.
As of June 22nd (weather permitting of course) the City’s wading pools will be open! What better way to beat this
summer heat wave than take a little plunge with your little one in the local pool. Last year we found our neighbourhood wading pool very chilly especially for a little person low on body fat so we might go check out the nearest splash pad first – those have been open a whole month already and we have yet to visit. Considering Bunny’s new-found obsession with puddles I’m thinking a splash pad may be just the thing!
  • Other honourable mentions for getting a little wet around the city include the Pond in Rockcliffe Park, Meech Lake, or your trusty back yard sprinkler.

This summer is starting us off hot and humid – how are you going to keep cool?
